Often Misunderstood Roles:
Top (Male or Female; scene specific, the “do’er”- Topping does not imply a power exchange relationship)
Bottom (Male or Female, scene specific, the “do’ee”- Bottoming does not imply a person is “submissive”)
Switch (may enjoy Top/bottom, or Dominant/ submissive roles depending on the situation and the relationship)
Primarily Dominant Roles:
Dominant (Of any gender)
Domme (Female Identified Dominant, still pronounced “Dom” not Dom-may)
Sir (Male Identified Dominant)- term of respect for a male dominant
Ma’am (Female Identified Dominant) – term of respect for a female dominant
Master (Male or Female usually implies either an M/s relationship, or a “Leather title”)
Mistress/Lady/Queen/ Goddess / etc. (Female Identified Dominant – self given because they like it)
Mommy/Daddy (Engaged in a Parent/little type authority transfer, may or may not include age play)
Primal Predator (likes rougher play, like biting etc., animalistic, and is a Top or Dominant)
Alpha (Pack Dominant)
FemDom (Shortened version of Female Dominant mostly used in the “fetish” community)
Dominatrix (Female Dominant, often a pro who charges for services, less used term these days)
Primarily Submissive Roles:
Submissive / Sub (male or female)
Slave (male or female, usually implies they are in, or desire, a Total Authority Transfer relationship)
Kajira (female slave, usually more formal and based on Gorean novels)
Little (Baby Girl, Baby Boy, Big, Little, Middle) – All ages, some relationships sexual, some nonsexual
Brat (a person who enjoys acting out and challenging authority to varying degrees. (playful sass to disrespectful)
Omega (Pack Submissive)
Pet (usually someone who likes “pet play”, but it can be a submissive who likes “little play”)
Primal Prey (likes rougher play, like biting etc., and is bottom or submissive, may also resist/fight back)
Sissy /Sissy Slut/ Sissy Maid (Cross dresser)
Other:
Sadist (enjoys, and is often aroused by, giving intense sensations some may define as painful)
Masochist (enjoys, and is often aroused by, receiving sensations frequently defined as painful)

Transgender (those who do not identify, or exclusively identify, with the sex assigned at birth)
Queer/Questioning (an umbrella term for all of those who are not heterosexual, cisgendered, or who are questioning their orientation)
Intersex (when a person has an indeterminate mix of primary and secondary sex characteristics)
Asexual (Generally does not feel, or does not focus relationships around, sexual attraction)
Cisgendered (Identifies as the sex they were assigned at birth)
Pansexual (Sexually attracted to who not what, doesn’t need a specific m/f sexual energy)
Vanilla (non kinky person or individual)
